Critical situation in La Inmaculada: beds are installed in Consultas and the gym
Health professionals have changed responsibility to care for those admitted.
The disastrous rates of contagion that the towns in the north of the province are suffering are already translating into a more than worrying situation at the Hospital La Inmaculada de Huércal-Overa. This hospital center is where patients who need medical attention from the Levante Almeriense, Valle del Almanzora and Los Vélez regions are treated.
The hundreds of infections that the towns of the aforementioned regions continue to accumulate have resulted in numerous admissions to the Huercalense hospital, whose professionals have seen how the spaces for patients both in the ward and in the ICU have been overflowed, forcing the creation of new areas to place the necessary beds (intended for patients without Covid-19) in spaces not normally intended for this purpose.
Fifty emergency beds
In this way, some 30 more beds have been set up in spaces such as the Outpatient Consultation room, the Medical Day Hospital and the center's Gymnasium, while around 20 more intensive care unit beds have been installed, which are distributed between Resuscitation and the Surgical Day Hospital ward.
Another of the urgent modifications to which the increase in Covid-19 cases has forced has been the transfer of health professionals from one area to another, since various interventions and non-priority care have been suspended.
The avalanche of patients arriving at the Hospital La Inmaculada de Huércal-Overa was in a certain way predictable for about two weeks, when numerous cases began to be quantified in populations of the North Sanitary Area of the province, some of these localities with a high rate of contagions such as Albox, Vélez-Rubio, Vera or Carboneras, among other municipalities.
