Oh dear, Jos Biggs has more problems in today's story. On Saturday afternoon I noticed a drip coming from the filter where the water goes into the house. Judging by the wet patch it had been leaking for some time. There was nothing I could do about it on a Saturday afternoon, so I looked for some wellies and resigned myself to waiting for Monday. On Monday morning I hastened down to Fontalmanzora, who in the past have been quick, efficient and reasonable - what more can you ask for in a plumber? ‘Nobody can come for two weeks.’ The chica told me. I was aghast. ‘I can’t leave it for two weeks!’ ‘We’ll do our best. If we get a cancellation we’ll ring you.’ I made a noise like a deflating airbed, and turned Henry towards Fontarboleas, with whom I have also had good experiences in the past. They could offer relief from leaks by Thursday or Friday. Perhaps. On Wednesday I was recounting my tale of woe to Steve the Pool. He knows what a fluffy-headed individual I am, so he simply said ‘Show me.’ Together we surveyed the problem area. ‘I think I need a new filter.’ I ventured. Steve straightened up (why are filters always put where a normal sized human can’t reach them?) and rang his friend Clive, who couldn’t come for a month. ‘You get the filter, I’ll fix it for you on Saturday.’ Steve volunteered. Later, by happenstance, I picked up a card promising all sorts of useful relief in sticky situations, including plumbing. It came in the form of Jonathan, who arrived on Thursday morning. In short order he had located the problem - a missing screw. He stuck another screw in the hole left by the missing screw - and the drip stopped. I checked later, and it was still stopped. But now I had gone from a dearth of plumbers to a surfeit of plumbers. I charged down to Fontarboleas and Fontalmanzora to cancel the plethora of plumbers that was likely to descend on my house. And to tell Steve, God bless him, that he could have his Saturday back! *The leak was dripping at about 2 drops per second. I can’t be bothered, but if you are really bored you can work out how many drips would have dropped between Saturday afternoon and Thursday morning!
