Jos Biggs Story for you.

Oh dear, Jos Biggs is in trouble again !!

It has often been said that I should not be allowed out without a responsible adult in charge.

And there are numerous occasions where this has proved to be a valid statement.

The latest of these occasions was yesterday. Here’s what happened:

Stephen’s car had to go into the garage, and without drama I fetched Stephen back home from the garage, his car having been safely delivered to the workshop.

However, he would have to go and pick it up again when it was ready. No problem; it would be ready on Saturday midday, and as I had nothing on it would be an easily achievable little task for me to take Stephen down to the garage to fetch it back.

The time was set - 12.45. I wrote it down in my diary, and as a fail-safe, also on the wall chart.

Saturday dawned cold and drizzly - the ideal day for some vigorous housework.

I vigorously houseworked, then sat down to pause for breath and lunch when the phone went. It was Stephen.

‘Hello Stephen.’ I responded in a cheerful voice. ‘What’s up?’

‘Are you all right?’

‘Yes, I’m fine.’ I assured him cheerfully. How nice of him to care.

‘Only I wondered if you were OK.’

‘Yes, I’m fine. Why?’ My conscience was as clear as top grade Murano glass.

‘You said you’d take me to the garage at a quarter to, and it’s quarter past now.’

What could I do except blind him with some hastily concocted excuse? No, better apologise and tell the truth - if I fib I’ll only forget what I said, and get myself even deeper into trouble!

‘Oh Stephen, I’m so sorry - I forgot!’

Fortunately Stephen knows that I am a wool-head, and forgetting things is my stock in trade, but the opinion that I shouldn’t be allowed out without a responsible adult has once again proved true!
