The Martians are coming ?? Jos Biggs story today explains !!
At some point during the afternoon I became aware that all was not normal with the outside world.
A glance out of the window confirmed my suspicion that Something was going on.
I got in touch with my inner explorer, donned my pith helmet, and like the intrepid adventurers of old, stepped out into the garden.
There was a lion, a dragon, two grizzly bears, a crocodile and a very large lizard in my garden. However, I gave them scant attention and turned my eyes skywards.
The sky was orange - a very attractive colour for a sky, but not normal on this planet.
As I watched I noticed that the orange was advancing and gradually swallowing up the view. Not just the view down the valley, but the view all around - soon I would be surrounded, alone, marooned in a ginger cloud.
It is at moments like this when dauntless explorers like myself square their jaws, tighten their belts, and unflinchingly face the enemy.
I considered the options: Limaria, like the mythical village of Brigadoon, was going to disappear, only to re-appear in a hundred years for one day only. In which case nobody will ever know, or at least not for a hundred years.
Perhaps the Martians had landed, and brought their atmosphere with them. Possible. We have been sending all sorts of space paraphernalia up to them recently, maybe they’ve come to see what the heck we think we are up to. I cast my mind back to that hilarious film Mars Attacks. That’s fine, I know how to destroy them - play them the Indian Love Call sung by Slim Whitman; it makes them explode.
I’m sure I can find it on Youtube.
Or: It’s a Sahara Dust Cloud. Yup, that’s it! I’m going to have to spend the next morning cleaning everything, including the washing line!
I wish it was the Martians - much more fun!
