Jos Biggs Sunday Story

Another Sunday treat from Jos Biggs . Enjoy.

Ooops! sorry I'm late - I thought it was still Saturday.

I’ve been without my telly for a week.

For a couple of weeks it has been arbitrarily deciding what I shall watch, what it will condescend to record, and whether or not it will then permit me to watch whatever it has decided to record.

As to watching a live programme - would I be so lucky!

For help and solace I summonsed Gary, who is master of all kinds of telly malfunctions, and who I confidently knew would soon have it licked into shape.

‘Broken cable’ he announced. This is apparently fixable, so he departed to procure the necessaries, returning in the heat of the day to install the new cable, which involved climbing on the roof.

It was not ideal roof-climbing weather, and Noel Coward’s words on the subject of Mad Dogs and Englishmen sprang into my mind.

I’m thinking of inserting an extra verse:

In Spain you’ll find

A different kind

Of occupational daring

They do not shun

The midday sun

No matter how it’s glaring

With ladder and cable

Willing and able

Their tolerance to temporal roasting

Merely inclines to British boasting

Mad dogs and Englishmen

Go out in the midday sun!
