I've been a bit lax this week - I haven't got anything new for you.
So instead I have fished something out of the archives; it is from my much enjoyed time at Germana's Juntando Letras sessions.
It is unashamedly based on the Musical Hall song by Pether & Leigh, and sung by Vesta Victoria.
I'm sure you will get it, though I have read it to a couple of Spaniards who do not - when I get to the punchline they look at me expectantly and say ¿Y?
My Mother-in-Law’s Excuse
I was standing outside the church in my rented wedding dress, waiting for my husband-to-be, Enrique, when my phone rang.
It was my future mother-in-law.
‘So sorry, dear, but I won’t be coming to your wedding today to my only son, Enrique, because I am going away on holiday.’
‘Oh!’ I said. ‘I hope you have a nice time.’
I didn’t mean it; I hoped she would have a horrible time, the mean old cow.
‘Yes, I’m sure I will.’ she purred. ‘I am going to Benidorm for a week with my only son, Enrique, and his wife.’
