*Travel from UK to Spain: current Spanish and UK rules*

Some of you in the UK may be thinking about booking a flight to Spain now that the UK government has said going on holiday is no longer illegal from today. However, please bear in mind that you must comply with any restrictions in place for Spain as well as the UK’s rules.

What are the Spanish rules for travel from the UK? The Spanish authorities continue to restrict non-essential travel from the UK. This means that currently only Spanish nationals and those who are resident in Spain, plus a few very limited exceptions, are able to enter Spain. Details of this are on our travel advice: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain/entry-requirements. Details of the documents that are required to prove your residency status to enter Spain are also on our Travel Advice page. It is currently not possible to enter Spain for other reasons e.g. tourism or to visit a second home.

What are the UK rules for travel from the UK to Spain? As of today, 17 May, Spain is on the UK’s ‘Amber List’. This means travel to Spain is not recommended and also that anyone who returns to the UK from Spain will have to follow the rules for amber rated countries here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/red-amber-and-green-list-rules-for-entering-england

When these rules change we will provide an update on our travel advice page and here at Brits in Spain.
