I wrote this in Lockdown. I’ve just found it again, and I thought it was still relevant - except that now I see my neighbours, which is a good thing.

The Bright Side

I know we all enjoy a good grumble, but I’m done with that now. 

I’ve decided to look on the bright side. 

For instance:

It doesn’t matter what time I go to bed because it doesn’t matter what time I get up, I’ve got nowhere to go! So I can watch telly in the evening for as long as I like, or more likely for as long as I can stay awake! (Still true)

And when I do grace the day with my presence I can wear whatever I like. Nobody’s going to see me, and I’m not going to see anybody - if I wanted to I could wander round all day in my dressing gown. (Unless I’m going somewhere or meeting somebody)

(Ladies only) I don’t even have to wear a bra – bliss!

As Henry the car is tucked up nice and snug in his carport and going nowhere he doesn’t need feeding, so I’m saving on petrol.

House arrest also means that I am spared the temptation of ‘As I’m in Albox/Arboleas/wherever, I’ll just pop in somewhere for a coffee, and while I’m there maybe a bite to eat.’ More saving! (But not so much fun)

It’s not only cash I’m saving, it’s time. I have got time to do all sorts of things at my leisure, such as sit down and look at the view. (True, just requires organisational ability - that’s the hard bit!)

Or listen to Classic FM all day. (I do)

Maybe I’ll even get round to reading a book, or doing a jigsaw. (I have!)

Well, must go – I’ve got the kitchen cupboards to clean and tidy. 

Or maybe I’ll do that tomorrow? Yes, why not?

As my husband used to say ‘Jobs don’t do themselves, they will always be there tomorrow.’ And I have found that some jobs benefit from being left; for instance, why dust today, when tomorrow there’ll be more dust, so it’ll be more worthwhile dusting!

British tourists fined for driving with a UK licence - What steps do you have to take if you want to appeal it?

1st. If you have been fined is because the police officer considered that you are a resident, in this case, you do not hay to pay the ticket on the spot. Remember that if you accept the discount, you agree with the fine.

2nd. Once at home, please download the official format to appeal a traffic offence. It is advisable to do it in this format, but you can do it in a free-form document, including all your personal information and the fine number.

3rd. Here we advice you to attach the following text in Spanish ;

(Attach tickets proving when you arrive and leave the country)

He sido denunciado por conducir con un permiso de conducir expedido en Reino Unido. 

Debo alegar en mi defensa que soy una persona de nacionalidad británica con residencia en Reino Unido, y efectivamente tengo número NIE pero lo obtuve porque lo necesitaba como requisito fiscal previo a la compra de una vivienda y/o un coche en España.

Tengo en propiedad una vivienda en España , pero nunca he solicitado mi inscripción en el Padrón de habitantes del Ayuntamiento, ya que la vivenda tiene un uso vacacional teniendo mi residencia fiscal y laboral en Reino Unido.

El  motivo de tener un coche matriculado en España a mi nombre, no es otro que utilizarlo para mis desplazamientos durante los períodos vacacionales.

Puedo facilitarles documentación que demuestra que vivo y trabajo en Reino Unido una vez vuelva a mi país. Además, podría solicitar el certificado Ex15 que me acredita como no residente, pero para ello debo solicitar cita en la Comisaría de Policia Nacional y no podré obtener el documento antes de finalice el período para realizar alegaciones.

Adjunto copia de los billete de avión/ferry/eurotunel que demuestran el día que llegue al país (día .../../2022), así como el día que finalizo mis vacaciones y vuelo a mi país (día .../../.../ )

Por todo lo expuesto anteriormente solicito la cancelación del expediente incoado contra mi persona.

4th. Place the document in an envelope open and take it to the post office, they will stamp the document with the date to prove that you appeal on time. 

Don´t forget to send the letter to the traffic department which issued the fine.

5th. Be patient and wait for the answer. In case you paid the fine, you will have to reclaim your money back once you get the DGT response.
