Jos Biggs. Sunday Treat

Whoops !! Jos Biggs forgot the date !! Remember, remember the first of November - one of the reddest of Spain’s Red Days, a day when everything everywhere is shut. I may be a little shaky on equations such as x=y-ab squared to the power of 6+14 might mean, but I do know beyond doubt that the first of November is a Red Day. I awoke on Monday feeling fairly human and determined to regain my place in the world. I arose, completed all the tasks dictated as necessary by common decency, such as brushing my teeth, washing and dressing, and moved on to the tasks dictated as necessary by the Good Housewife’s Guide to Hygienic Home Maintenance, such as the abolishment of dust and the capture and removal of cat hair and garden detritus as brought indoors on the furry undercarriage of Mr Fluffipants. Now I was ready to meet the main event of the day - Art class. I assembled my pad and pencils - I only draw, I don’t paint, painting involves too many accoutrements, and I’m not licensed for accoutrements. Thus loaded I set out, congratulating myself on having remembered both Henry’s key and to lock the door on exit. I have a drawing on the go, and I was looking forward to a morning of converting my planned rough outline into a ropey, but nevertheless completed work of art. As is my wont I took the back road into Albox and parked in my usual spot in the less popular parking places at the back of the main road. As I parked I noticed an absence of other vehicles - I could park virtually anywhere I liked, as long as I liked to park at the back of the hardware store. I wondered at this but put it down to the fact that I was a little early, and nobody else was quite up yet. I hefted my bag onto my shoulder and set off round the corner to the main road and my destination. As I rounded the corner it dawned on me - of course it’s quiet, it’s November the first! Fortunately there was nobody out and about who could witness my embarrassment as I made an abrupt turnabout and backtracked to Henry, bag still on shoulder! I knew: Art class is on a Monday. Monday 1st November is a Red Day. But I had not put the two facts together! What an idiot! I am not fit to be let out without a responsible adult to look after me!
